Kidneywood is a delightful, drought-hardy native shrub or small tree that earns its place in the landscape with clusters of tiny, intensely fragrant white flowers that perfume the surrounding garden with a sweet, honey-like scent from spring through fall, especially after summer rains. Growing 6–12 feet tall with a fine-textured, airy canopy of small, pinnately compound leaves that release a pleasant fragrance when brushed, it brings a light, graceful quality to dry garden settings. Perfectly adapted to the rocky limestone soils and relentless heat of Central and West Texas, it is a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators throughout its long bloom season.
