Evergreen Sumac

Rhus sempervirens

Evergreen Sumac is a tough, adaptable native shrub-tree that brings reliable year-round structure and glossy dark green foliage to dry, rocky landscapes across the Texas Hill Country and Trans-Pecos. In late summer, small clusters of red berries ripen and persist through winter, providing a critical food source for birds during the leanest months of the year. Highly drought-tolerant and well-adapted to alkaline limestone soils, it makes an outstanding evergreen screen, foundation planting, or erosion-control plant with minimal maintenance required.
