Guajillo is a delicate, multi-stemmed native shrub that brings a soft, feathery texture and sweet floral fragrance to dry landscapes across South and Central Texas. In late winter and early spring, its bare branches become adorned with small, creamy-white powder puff blooms that are among the most important early nectar sources for honeybees in the region, producing a prized, light-colored honey long celebrated by beekeepers across the Texas brush country. Growing 4 to 8 feet tall with finely divided, fern-like foliage that casts a light, airy shade, it thrives in the rocky limestone soils and relentless heat of its native range with minimal care or irrigation.
