Osage Orange, known across Texas as Bois d'arc or Bodark, is one of the toughest and most storied native trees in North America, a fast-growing, long-lived hardwood with wood so dense and rot-resistant that fence posts hewn from it can outlast the farmer who drove them. Its distinctive, bumpy green fruits the size of softballs, known locally as horse apples, add a bold ornamental novelty to the fall and winter landscape. With its gnarled, thorny form and golden-orange inner wood, it is a tree of rugged, singular character deeply woven into the heritage of the Texas landscape.
