Purple Threeawn

Aristida purpurea

Purple Threeawn is a fine-textured native bunchgrass known for its delicate, wispy seed heads that catch the light and sway gracefully with the slightest breeze, adding movement and softness to dry meadow plantings and naturalized borders. Growing 1 to 2 feet tall, its slender stems are topped each summer with airy, purple-tinged plumes that mature to a pale tan, providing months of textural interest against the surrounding landscape. Thriving in poor, sandy, and rocky soils across Texas and the Southwest, this hardy native grass requires minimal care once established and is an excellent choice for water-wise gardens and prairie restoration projects.
