Texas Barberry is a striking, slow-growing native shrub of the Texas Hill Country, where its stiff, holly-like leaves in a distinctive blue-green to gray-green color provide year-round architectural interest and a bold, spiny texture that few other native shrubs can match. In late winter and early spring, cheerful clusters of bright yellow flowers emerge along its thorny branches.
