Blue Grama

Bouteloua gracilis

Blue Grama is a fine-textured native bunchgrass that brings a soft, delicate charm to dry meadows and naturalized landscapes throughout Texas and the Great Plains. Growing 12 to 24 inches tall, it produces distinctive curved seed heads often described as resembling tiny eyelashes or combs, perched atop slender stems above a dense mat of curling green foliage that fades to a light straw color in winter. One of the most drought tolerant native grasses available, it handles intense heat and poor soils with ease, making it an outstanding choice for xeriscaping, erosion control, and low-water lawn alternatives.
